Dr. Hitzman’s research interests are in the formation of metallic mineral deposits and natural resource policy. Dr. Hitzman is the Charles Fogarty Professor of Economic Geology. His expertise is in the field of mineral deposits geology and exploration and he is considered a world expert on iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG) and sedimentary rock hosted stratiform copper deposits, particularly those of the Central African Copperbelt in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is also involved in natural resources policy. Dr. Hitzman had significant industry and governmental experience prior to his arrival at Colorado School of Mines.
