GOLDEN, Colo., April 30, 2015 – Ken Salazar, former U.S. Secretary of the Interior, will deliver the keynote address during the spring 2015 Colorado School of Mines commencement.

The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. on May 8, on Kafadar Commons on the Mines campus. Additional information for families and guests can be found on the commencement website.

Salazar is a partner at the global law firm of WilmerHale and has also served as U.S. Senator and State Attorney General for Colorado. As a Partner at WilmerHale, he provides legal and strategic advice to national and international clients on complex energy and natural resources matters concerning regulatory, civil and criminal matters. 

As United States Senator, Mr. Salazar led successful bipartisan efforts on many matters, including the enactment of the 2005 Energy Policy Act. As Secretary of Interior from 2009 to 2013, he helped create the nation’s “all of the above” energy framework, managed the crisis concerning the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and led the reform efforts concerning oil and gas exploration and development on America’s public lands. 

Mr. Salazar was born in Alamosa, Colo., and grew up in the San Luis Valley. He earned a B.A. in political science from Colorado College and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
