Mines class of 2017 to refresh mountainside M in annual tradition

GOLDEN, Colo., Aug. 16, 2013 – The Colorado School of Mines Class of 2017 will kick off the fall 2013 semester early on Aug. 19 as they embark on the M Climb, one of Mines’ favorite traditions dating back to 1908.

As an annual rite of passage, incoming students haul 10-pound rocks up to the university's iconic mountainside M on Mt. Zion and then give the landmark (and their classmates) a fresh coat of whitewash.

Students in this year's entering class have an average composite SAT score of 1325 (a full 25 points higher than last year's high), an average composite ACT score of 30, and an average high school GPA of 3.8; making them the most academically prepared class in Mines history.
