GOLDEN, Colo., April 30, 2014 – The house located on the Colorado School of Mines campus at 18th and Illinois streets that was recently offered as “free” with the hope it could be preserved and moved to a new location, will soon have a new home.

The City of Golden Planning and Zoning and Colorado School of Mines Capital Planning and Construction reviewed applications, and selected Golden real estate company, Easy Street Properties, LLC. The company plans to relocate the house to 410 9th Street in Golden no later than June 15.

"We decided that keeping the house in Golden was important, both for historical value to the community and for the ease of moving the building," said Chris Cocallas, director of Mines Capital Planning and Construction.

Easy Street began 20 years ago as a company that renovated Victorian properties. The company saw this as an opportunity to save a property from being torn down and keep it in Golden.

“As a 4th generation native of Jefferson County, I am personally very excited to preserve this piece of Golden history,” said Sam Kimbriel, president and CEO of Easy Street.

The move will cost Easy Street between $50,000-60,000, as the company works with Mammoth Structural Movers to transport it to its new location. The structure measures 28 feet tall, but will be around 30-35 feet tall when transported on a structural semi truck. Due to its height, Easy Street will work with the city’s electrical companies to move power lines prior to the relocation. The house move will take place in the evening and should not cause much traffic disruption.

Easy Street plans to use the building for office space or rental property. In either situation, they hope to showcase the history of the house prominently. In a few weeks, a video blog of the move and renovation can be found at fixandflip.com.

The former site housed the Mines Department of Public Safety and will soon serve as the location for the new welcome center.
