First day of Spring 2024 semester marks beginning of 150th anniversary year for Colorado School of Mines
Mines will be celebrating its sesquicentennial with special events and activities throughout 2024
Colorado School of Mines welcomed students back to campus Jan. 9 for the start of the Spring 2024 semester.
But that’s not the only thing kicking off this month: 2024 is the 150th anniversary of Colorado School of Mines’ founding as a territorial institution in 1874.
(Fun fact: Mines is actually older than the state of Colorado, which gained statehood in 1876.)
Mines will be celebrating its anniversary year with special events and activities all year long. Among the highlights of the sesquicentennial celebration:
- Feb. 5-9: Founders Week, capped by the Founders Day Celebration and Grand Opening of the Labriola Innovation Hub on Feb. 9
- April 4: Grand opening of the Beck Venture Center and Mines Entrepreneurial Showcase
- April 12-14: 90th Annual Engineering Days
- May 9-10: Spring 2024 Commencement
- Aug. 16: M Climb
- Sept. 26-28: Homecoming
- Dec. 13: Fall 2024 Commencement
Other highlights of the coming year include:
- Expansion of the free Ore Cart shuttle service, with new stops north of downtown and Highway 58
- Opening of the Mines Early Childhood Education Center, providing on-campus childcare for about 104 children of Mines affiliates
- Completion of the top-to-bottom renovation of the Mines Park apartment units on Infinity Circle, with construction continuing on the five new buildings set to open in Fall 2025
