GOLDEN, Colo., June 19, 2012 – Dr. Fernando Guzman has joined the Colorado School of Mines community as executive director of the school’s Multicultural Engineering Program (MEP).
Guzman has a doctoral degree in counseling psychology from the University of Denver, a master’s degree in counseling from California State University, Sacramento and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Santa Clara.
He previously served as assistant provost for multicultural faculty recruitment and retention at the University of Denver. Prior to that role, he was an adjunct assistant professor in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at DU and a team member of DU's Center for Multicultural Excellence.
MEP has been existence at Mines since 1989 and aims to graduate ethnic and racial multicultural men and women in the areas of math, science and engineering by maintaining community and cultural ties, enhancing academic success, increasing student retention, expanding recruitment and promoting professional development.
