Mines to host premier regional programming competition Nov. 8

GOLDEN, Colo., Nov. 7, 2014 – Colorado School of Mines will be hosting 13 teams from around the Rocky Mountain region for the ACM Intercollegiate Programming Contest Nov. 8. Mines will have four teams competing, with three students on each team.

Students will be tasked with solving 8-12 problems of varying difficulty over a five-hour period. Past problems have involved optimizing subway schedules, analyzing logic circuits and tracking robot movements. Teams will be ranked according to the most problems solved.

On Nov. 7, contestants will participate in a practice session where they will familiarize themselves with their computers and the competition format. The competition will take place Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the CTLM building, 1650 Arapahoe St., rooms 223-231.  

Participating teams include Brigham Young University, Colorado Mesa University, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University, Front Range Community College, Dixie State University, Lethbridge College, Montana State University, Montana Tech of the University of Montana, University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge, University of Nevada, University of Saskatchewan, University of Utah and Utah State University.
