Mines hosts discussion on impact of crude oil export ban lift

GOLDEN, Colo., Feb. 12, 2016 – Colorado School of Mines recently hosted a panel in conjunction with the Jeffco Energy Action Project, the Jefferson County Economic Development Corporation, and Vital for Colorado, focused on the recent lift of the crude oil export ban in the U.S. and the impact on Colorado’s oil and gas economy.

The panel included U.S. Representative Ed Perlmutter (D) CO, U.S. Representative Ken Buck (R) CO, Christopher Guith (U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for 21st Century Energy), Geoff Houlton (Director of Commodity Fundamentals, Anadarko Petroleum Corp.), John R. Grizz Deal (CEO IX Power Clean Water), and Craig W. Van Kirk (Professor Emeritus Petroleum Engineering Colorado School of Mines).

Dan Haley, president and CEO of the Colorado Oil and Gas Association, served as moderator.

Asking them to first speak on the history of the oil industry in America, including the 1975 Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA) that banned crude oil export out of the U.S., Haley guided the diverse panel in discussing the issue. Their varying backgrounds enabled the panelists to engage in a healthy debate regarding the impact that the recent ban will have not only on Colorado’s economy, but also on the environment and other sociopolitical sectors.

A video of the entire panel can be seen below. Photos are also available in this album.
