Mines postpones in-person Spring 2020 Commencement ceremonies

Colorado School of Mines has postponed all in-person ceremonies during its Spring 2020 Commencement, originally scheduled for May 7-8, 2020, in line with public health directives aimed at stopping the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Instead, Mines President Paul C. Johnson is inviting all Spring 2020 graduates to multiple celebrations, with the first being a virtual commencement Friday, May 8, timed to celebrate when the graduates complete their degrees. The second is a tentatively planned mid- to late-summer on-campus commencement ceremony that would replace the May event and also include students who complete their degree programs over the summer. Third, all Spring 2020 graduates will have the option to return to campus in December 2020 or May 2021 to walk in one of the next two regularly-scheduled graduation ceremonies.

“We remain committed to recognizing your achievements and celebrating with your family, friends and classmates,” Johnson wrote in a letter to May graduates. “It means a lot to us to see you get the recognition you have earned as a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines and to provide an opportunity for you, your friends and families to gather and celebrate.”
