GOLDEN, Colo., Sept. 25, 2013 – Hugh King, Colorado School of Mines chemical and biological engineering professor, will be honored during Golden Mayor Marjorie Sloan’s 2013 Community Event at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 25, in the Foss Auditorium at the American Mountaineering Center, 710 10th St. in Golden.
The event, “Building a Better Golden: People Who Make it Happen,” is free and open to the public.
King, who played a major role in bringing biology and life sciences to Mines, previously was a researcher at Bell Labs and a practicing physician. He has received awards for teaching excellence and has developed 11 new courses at Mines.
His was nominated for the 2013 Golden Mayor’s Award for his role as an international humanitarian. In 1999, Hugh and his wife, Magda, founded Namlo International, a nonprofit organization that helps people in rural, poor communities to help themselves. The organization focuses on sustainably developing schools in the U.S., Nepal, Nicaragua, and Spain.
Other outstanding Goldenites to be honored include Chuck Baroch, Ed Dorsey, Preston Driggers and Dan Thoemke. The event is hosted by the City of Golden and the Rotary Club of Golden.
