GOLDEN, Colo., Nov. 26, 2012 – Colorado School of Mines Professor Reuben Collins was elected Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) at its November 2012 meeting, a distinction fewer than 1 percent of the organization’s members receive.
The citation recognizes Collins for his “contributions to understanding optical properties of high temperature superconductors, complex semiconductor heterostructures, porous silicon and hybrid organic-inorganic heterostructures.”
At Colorado School of Mines, Collins serves as professor in the Physics Department and associate director of the Renewable Energy Materials Research Science and Engineering Center. Much of his research focuses on materials physics for renewable energy systems, particularly photovoltaics.
“Meeting the energy needs of the future in a truly sustainable manner is one of the grand challenges of the 21st century, and a major component of my research at Mines,” said Collins.
The APS will present Collins with a fellowship certificate at its meeting in Baltimore, March 18-22, 2013.
