GOLDEN, Colo., April 23, 2013 – The U.S. Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory recently announced Colorado School of Mines would join nine other universities in the DOE Collegiate Wind Competition in spring of 2014.
The competition will allow an interdisciplinary team of undergraduate students to investigate innovative wind energy concepts as well as design, build and test a lightweight wind turbine used for powering small electronic devices. Teams will also develop a business plan and participate in a debate on wind issues.
The winning turbine will be placed on display at the DOE headquarters in Washington D.C.
The other teams include Boise State University, California Maritime Academy, James Madison University, Kansas State University, Northern Arizona University, Pennsylvania State University, University of Alaska-Fairbanks, University of Kansas and University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
