Spring 2014 graduating class largest in Mines history

GOLDEN, Colo., April 21, 2014 – Colorado School of Mines spring commencement ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. May 9, on Kafadar Commons, on the university’s campus in Golden. The degrees to be conferred include 711 bachelors, 194 masters and 39 doctorates, making it the largest commencement in Mines history.

The featured speaker is Clarence P. Cazalot Jr., retired (2013) chairman, president and CEO of Marathon Oil Corporation.

Cazalot is a native of New Orleans and graduated from Louisiana State University (LSU) with a bachelor’s degree in geology and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from LSU in 2007. He serves on the board of directors of various corporations, the LSU Foundation, the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy, the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System (Texas’ largest non-profit healthcare system), and on the board of visitors of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Mr. Cazalot is the immediate past chairman of the American Petroleum Institute.
