Stevanovic named faculty lead for Mines/NREL Nexus

Vladan Stevanovic has been named faculty lead for the Mines/NREL Nexus, a strategic partnership between the Colorado School of Mines and the U.S. Department of Energy National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
A member of the Mines faculty since 2015, Stevanovic is an associate professor of metallurgical and materials engineering. With multidisciplinary experience in materials science, as well as a joint appointment between NREL and Mines since 2012, Stevanovic is well-positioned to enhance the impact of the Mines/NREL collaboration and further the Nexus mission of advancing collaborative research and teaching. His new appointment began March 10.
In this role with Nexus, Stevanovic will spearhead collaborative research initiatives, strengthen national lab and academic partnerships and develop research innovation for energy and advanced technology solutions.
Stevanovic’s research is in computational materials physics and materials science, with a focus on inorganic functional materials, materials discovery and design. He has published in the top physics, chemistry and materials science journals, with more than 120 papers, two book chapters and two patents, along with numerous invited talks and seminars. He lectures two undergraduate courses at Mines and leads an internationally recognized research group in computational materials research.
Stevanovic holds a PhD in theoretical solid-state physics from Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland and a master’s degree in theoretical physics from the University of Belgrade. He won a Special Teaching Prize in 2008 from EPFL, the 2019 Colorado School of Mines Junior Research Excellence Award and an NSF CAREER award.
