Two Teach@Mines students named to Colorado Future Educator Honor Roll

Award honors outstanding beginning teachers in the state

Dana Anderson and Colista Bird, two recent graduates of Colorado School of Mines, were named to the 2025 Colorado Future Educator Honor Roll

The Colorado Future Educator Honor Roll celebrates and elevates some of the brightest teacher candidates in the state. Honorees were celebrated at an event May 7 at the History Colorado Center.

Anderson, who graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in engineering physics with a minor in education, is pursuing licensure to teach both science and math at the middle school level. Her final student teaching placement is in a 6th-grade classroom in the Summit School District. Anderson first became interested in education through outdoor youth programs, where she could share her love for outdoor recreation with children. Through education courses at Mines, she realized she could also share her love for science with students.

Bird, who completed her master’s degree in STEM education in May, worked in industry before deciding to pursue education. She plans on becoming a secondary science teacher so she can share her love of science with younger generations.

Teach@Mines is the first program in Colorado to focus exclusively on training STEM teachers, with courses focusing on preparing students in teach at the K-12 and college levels. Pathways for undergraduates include a minor in teaching and a major in design engineering with a STEM teaching focus, as well as a master’s degree in STEM Education with a path to licensure.
