Han named IEEE senior member
Associate Professor of Computer Science Qi Han has been named as a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
According to the organization, only 10% of IEEE’s approximately 423,566 members hold this grade, which requires extensive experience, and reflects professional maturity and documented achievements of significance.

The rankings were developed based on the return on investment as well as institutional excellence, which included reputation, affordability and student retention.
Mines ranked most secure educational investment in Colorado
Colorado School of Mines has been ranked the most secure educational investment in the state, and 19th in the country, by a website seeking to help recent graduates with their career choices.
Zippia determined the rankings by considering how much each school costs, the risk of defaulting on student loans and how easy they are to pay back, the latter measured by graduates’ median salary at six years.
Graves wins SPE Regional Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty
Ramona Graves, dean of the College of Earth Resource Sciences Engineering, is the 2017 recipient of the Society of Petroleum Engineers Rocky Mountain Section Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty.
According to SPE, this regional award recognizes superiority in classroom teaching, excellence in research, significant contributions to the petroleum engineering profession and/or special effectiveness in advising and guiding students.

Prasad wins Society of Exploration Geophysicists Virgil Kauffman Gold Medal
Professor of Petroleum Engineering Manika Prasad has been named the 2017 recipient of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists Virgil Kauffman Gold Medal, in recognition of her extensive experimental work in rock physics at Colorado School of Mines. The award will be presented at the SEG 2017 Annual Meeting in Houston, TX in September.

Manika Prasad, professor of petroleum engineering, was awarded Honorary Membership to the Geophysical Society of Houston for distinguished contributions to the geophysical profession.
The Society recognized Prasad’s impacts in rock physics and rock mechanics including:

· Contributions to the research produced by the Center for Rock Abuse Fluids Consortium
